Effect of Stress Management Programme on Stress Level among Middle and Long Distance Runners during Competition

Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to find out the effect of stress management programme on stress level among middle
and long distance runners during competition. To achieve the purpose of the present study, forty middle and long distance runners were selected from sports Hostels of Karnataka state, India and their age ranged from16 to 21 years. The selected subjects were divided into two groups of twenty subjects in each. Group I acted as stress management group and group II acted as control group. The stress management group participated for a period of twelve weeks for alternate three days in a week and the post-tests were taken. Stress was assessed by Everly and Girdano’s stress questionnaire. To find out the difference between the two groups paired‘t’ test and ANCOVA were used. The findings of the present study have strongly indicates that twelve weeks of stress management programme had significant influence on stress of middle and long distance runners.
